The emergency is close. The response must listen.

Nigeria’s 2026 humanitarian plan puts urgent needs into focus. Local leadership and inclusive participation must shape what comes next.

The plan behind the numbers
Nigeria’s January 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan identifies 5.9 million people in need in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe. It targets 2.5 million people and seeks about US$516 million. These are figures for the wider coordinated response, not KADEF’s reach or appeal.

Need and planned reach are different
The number targeted is smaller than the number in need. That distinction must remain visible in public discussion. A response target is a planning figure, not proof that assistance has been delivered.

A future beyond immediate crisis
The plan connects conflict, displacement, climate shocks and pressure on essential services. It also emphasizes locally led coordination and the participation of affected communities. Those priorities help frame KADEF’s commitment to advocacy, inclusion and responsible partnerships.

Whose voice shapes the response?
Internally displaced people, returnees and host communities are not a single group with a single need. Women and girls, persons with disabilities and people facing exclusion must have safe opportunities to explain what matters to them.

The KADEF perspective
Our foundation is rooted in Yola, Adamawa. We are developing the institutional partnerships and thematic work that can connect rights, learning, community dialogue, WASH and health priorities. Specific activities will be grounded in assessment, resources and appropriate coordination.

An invitation to build carefully
A local idea needs more than enthusiasm. It needs planning, participation, funding and accountability. We invite supporters and institutions to help develop that foundation, and to follow the evidence as approved work moves forward.
